olivo barbieri at sfmoma

today yana, talene, max, ben, berto and i went to sf moma. i was eager to see the work of barbieri because i overheard someone on an airplane talking about how his aerial photographs make everything look like toys. being a lover of cities conceptually and practically, i needed to see this for myself. the film made to showcase these aerial shots was very unsettling because it was focused on las vegas, an urban space that, in itself, is a simulacra.  las vegas being built as a simulation of other urban environments is, through his lens, rendered hyper-artificial in its unblemished distortion of reality.  i.e. it was probably my favorite thing i saw there today.

also, as yana and i were shopping at the painted bird, we saw devendra banhart....all in a days work.

christmas presents!!!

i got some goodies this year. my sister bought me soaps which i am obsessed with - generally i like things that smell nice. it's kind of a problem. also, mom knows how much i love the barefoot contessa so she bought me a cook book, in which, everything looks so good that i kind of want to eat the book itself....

my friend sequoia's music

she sounds like macy gray + feist. if there is such a combo...

laurie brown

this particular sf based jewelry designer does mostly gold cast pieces. some of them are cool like this cast coral necklace and cast mountain lion claw. but there are others, which i didn't picture, that actually gross me out a little and i don't know why. particularly, the quail claw ring (mmhmm) and rose thorn earrings.

if i were a rich girl...

not together. as separate pieces. but if i WERE a rich girl, i would own all of them. with the first zip up jacket, i imagine a bangin' side pony tail and ankle moccasins with fringe!
