home sweet home

i really do miss home. i think i might move back sometime next year. it is so comfortable and happy.  thanksgiving was nice and small this year - really relaxing. i realized how much i missed being part of the family and how nice it felt to be comfortable in my own home. i need that feeling back.

i really like this designer. those belts are sweet!!!

tara donovan

trey introduced me to this artist a couple of months ago, but i've been into her again. it's mind blowing to me how a person could construct these shapes out of straws, styrofoam cups, buttons and tarpaper. so much elmers glue.

wants and desires

I enjoy this woman's style terribly.....

my two fashion wishes are a good pair of oxfords and a wool cape. i've found exactly what i want but they cost just an ungodly amount of money. i'm loving this lindsey thornburg cloak with hood...

these frye paige oxfords are definintely on my christmas list:

ohhhh i want them!!!!! look at that buckle! i train myself to think clothes are frivolous because i've never felt that i should spend money on things that aren't necessities (why i spend so much money on excessive food i will never know), but lately i've been so materialistic and I LIKE IT.

why i love oprah: a shortlist

1. despite all the sugar coating and melodramatic production value, the gist of all her overall mantra is incredibly wise. and true.
2. i cry almost every single episode (ESPECIALLY when she showers deserving families with presents). and i love crying happy tears.
3. i, too, love to eat and aimiably make fun of "naturally" thin people at every possible occasion.
4. i love her fakey relationship with steadman even though she and gayle are totally life partners.
5. nate berkus is my hero i.e. he is too good looking for words
6. i make time to watch oprah vs doing more productive things like showering, laundry, etc.
7. she makes it completely acceptable for celebrities to embarrass themselves on national television. fig. 1.
8. she can make an entire studio audience + me in my living room start screaming hysterically over... anything. anything she wants. she can do it. she's oprah.
9. in loving oprah, i realize that i'm not so different from that stay-at-home mom who might be watching in texas. because everyone loves oprah, and if you don't, you might as well be spitting in the face of reason. or indirectly saying "fuck poor people" or "suck it AIDS."
10. and if you sift through the sob stories, and makeovers, and voyeuristic trips into gwyneth paltrow's home gym - you will find that her overall message of female empowerment, self love and agency makes her the ultimate feminist.

proud to be an american!

For the first time in my life, I feel proud that my country has done something good. Berkeley was a mad house - people dancing, kissing, loving each other in the streets. It reminded me of that scene in Its a Wonderful Life when George Bailey is running down Main Street telling everyone in the town that he loves them.

The most touching moment of the night for me, aside from Obama's speech, was when a black minister from Alabama was interviewed on CNN. In response to the question, "How are you feeling at this moment," he said, "I've been blessed for my life." He went on to say that he had protested in Selma, been hosed down in the streets for non-violently protesting. Now he had voted for a black candidate and won. I loved what he said. The simplicity of "I've been blessed for my life" said so much.

Congrats America!!!

here is a link that i really enjoyed. it's called "Obama Wins:: Why All Americans Have a Reason to Celebrate."

don't speak...seriously just don't.

sooo this weekend never stopped happening if you know what i mean. thursday was gwynne's party, friday was halloween, saturday was recovery (and yet we still went out...?) ending with sunday and celebrating jason's birthday. after drinking in dolores park and ill advisedly eating pupusas, the troop of us made our way to a karaoke bar called "the mint" in upper market.

i signed up thinking, who needs to drink to sing in front of people?! not me! sadly though, i really should have and my rendition of the classic no doubt hit, "don't speak" caused everyone in that fateful bar to be struck speechless. jason performed the stevie wonder hit "sir duke," which required him to sing "you can feel it all over" about 15 times in high falsetto... and believe you me, he could sing it 100 times and i would still say MORE!

now that this crazy weekend is officially over, i want to wish everyone happy voting! OBAMA '08!!! NO on PROP 8!!!! WOOOOO!! i'm super excited for tomorrow......and, also i want my free starbucks coffee.
